December 6, 2017This is the final week of the project! How fast time goes when your learning things and improving your skills. I will say this project has helped me a bunch. One way is by learning all the things needed to know to operate the camera the correct way. I think my progress has been very good for being busy with cheer and school work.
I worked mostly on the weekends and other time was spent over thanksgiving break. I sat in and helped Tommi over Thanksgiving and I took some pictures as well. Watching her, she makes it seem so easy. You have to know how to situate the lighting and be at a angle that is best. Finally I have seen throughout this process that the Nikon indeed did do its job. Over time learning new settings really helped and as I was working to see throughout the whole process was which was best. I have come to the conclusion that the Nikon is the best. I hope my project has been enjoyable and was easy to follow. :)

November 29, 2017It's week 11! That means this project is almost over and time to share how great my progress has been. In the last weeks that I have worked I have learned so many different things that I may have never learned or not come across until later. One thing I realized is how different the cameras are. The GoPro was the hardest for me to get used to because it only had certain settings and you had to know how to work with it.
This week I will upload some of my pictures taken over the summer and show how great my camera really is. This summer I visited California and went to a young life camp. I took several pictures both places and learned some new things but not as much as I would have if I wouldn't have done this project. Other pictures I inserted into the album is one that I took on my mission trip over the summer as well. You can see the differences very well. The camera, as I predicted, had much better quality. I have not taken any pictures this week to show any progress from this week but still have yet to figure out the video mode on the Nikon, so that is why there is no pictures for this week. November 21, 2017This week is a important week because Christmas pictures and sessions are right around the corner. I am going to shadow Tommi this week as she taking pictures. Me and my sister will be taking our usual Christmas pictures as well. I am going to ask her to use my camera for a couple and see if she messes with settings that the picture would turn out as good as they do on her computer. I believe these sessions will really help me grow in my skills and see what angles and times of day is best.
One thing I noticed by all professional photographers is that there has to be a very fancy studio that you probably have to pay for to get the pictures you take to look that good. I believe with what I have the pictures turn out as good as they possibly can. If I get pretty good at taking pictures maybe the studio would be something I maybe would be interested in purchasing or downloading for me to use. Lastly I will say that I know I have not spent as much time on the GoPro because I feel if I want to go farther into the photographing business that I would not use the GoPro often. This is because I do not think it is the best quality. So far what I have compared from taking pictures is that my Nikon has the best quality. Next I believe is my IPhone. This surprised me because I would have thought it would not do as well as the others. The GoPro is more for action and to get outdoor type things. November 15, 2017This week I have focused on the Nikon again and I am working hard with edits and how to make the picture turn out the best. I have taken half of someones senior pictures. I think personally I did a very good job for being a beginner and still learning. Yesterday the sunset looked as if it could have been a back drop so I played around with lighting and if the flash should be turned on or off.
One thing I found with working with outdoors is when I went outside and it was different temperatures it made the camera lens fog up. When that was cleared up it is always hard to tell where the best lighting will be for the picture. There is a editing studio that is avabile to edit the pictures but on the computer that I have it said that the system needed to be updated so I just downloaded the picture to my phone and fixed the lighting from there. So even though I am comparing the quality of photos, my phone always comes in handy even if I am using my camera. Lastly, I have found myself getting so much better each week. Pretty soon I am going to shadow one of my moms good friends. Tommi has been taking pictures for a while and she has taken several of me and my family. She told me to be sure to watch how she sets up to get the best lighting. I think this will be very useful for me later, especially if I want to consider this as a side job later in life. November 10, 2017This week my blog post is to explain how far I have come with this project. I have learned so much and know so much more about my camera and GoPro setting and how they really work. With this project I feel as if I could go farther with going to learn how to be a photographer and learn the best filters and edits to make on pictures.
Also this week I have figured out the setting for my GoPro to look back to normal. It was reset somehow and I just plugged it in to the computer and reset it all. A picture from this week is posted on the picture page, check it out! Only a few more weeks with this project, stick with me to see my final outcomes and how great my camera really can be! November 1, 2017This week in my blog I will be sharing the quality of my IPhone 7 photos. I am sure several of you have seen what these pictures are like and that they sometimes are good and sometimes bad. I personally think that they take pictures better than the GoPro. My reasoning for this is because the GoPro is used for wide shots and more out door types. The camera is used at any time but always seems to have a super clear shot. My phone camera is foggy or dirty sometimes and the best picture doesn't show up as it could.
As I am learning to use my phone to it's best and edit the pictures well to make them look as close to camera quality is still a working process. In settings there is something where you can turn a grid on for when your camera comes up. I am not really sure what the full use is for this but I am guessing that you could use it to help focus your camera and also know the symmetrical measurment for a picture. This week my pictures will be of a middle school football game and the field. I have tried to get the field and the trees and other objects around it to look as sharp as possible. For editing purposes I know there are several phone apps that you can get to help fix things in your picture. On the computer the GoPro editing studio is something you can download. I am not completely sure of other editing studios for the Nikon photos. When editing your photos one thing I have learned is that you have to be careful when putting filters and other things on the original photo. Also I learned to compare the original picture to the one when you have finished editing it. If it looks almost as two different things took a picture then you may have gone a little to far on the filters and edits. Week 6This week my blog post is strictly about learning video mode on everything. I for sure know how to video on the Go-Pro, but still haven't figured out how on the camera.
Recently I have gone to young life camp and one time at a thing we call "club" something fun with several people I knew were on stage and I thought it would be the perfect time to video. I couldn't figure it out. I know for sure there is a certain red button on the side to hit but not really sure what to do after that. On the picture below you can see the red button near the on/off button. This is what is supposed to be clicked when you want to record something. Even after I click this is still shows that it is in picture mode. When you press the button to capture something, thinking it may start the video, it does nothing. On the GoPro there simply is a button you press to navigate the whole camera. GoPro's are defaulted in video mode so really there is not very much work to do for that. Lastly with my phone, video mode is very simple and all you have to do is get to the camera and then slide either left or right depending on your setting, to get to video mode. After you get there all you do is press the record button on your screen when you want to begin and end a video. Blog 5This week my blog post will consist of mainly GoPro pictures. I have finally figured out most of the settings and got a couple pictures. Still even though I got a few pictures they were only of my dog and it didn't seem as wide as it is supposed to be. I am pretty sure there is another setting or button needed to be pressed to get it into wide view. On the MacBook I have at home I switched the color into black and white.
I did not get a comparison picture because my dog will not stay still for that long but I was lucky enough to get the one because the GoPro took a while to actually take a picture. I still am working out the problems that I have but it is hard to figure out because it seems to die faster than my camera and phone. The Nikon actually has been my best bet for any pictures so far. My phone can sometimes have something on the lense and it be blurry, not focus, or even sometimes tell you that there is no more storage. The camera almost always has a clean lense and seems to always just go above and beyond on the quality. Blog 4This weeks post is mainly about the recent action shots taken on the NIkon. This week at practice I took some time to play around with the settings on the camera for action shots. They are listed in order on my photo page at the bottom. The pictures include Cody Beane and Carli Allen. I asked them to do something called coed stunting and just do the most simple thing they can do since I am still learning.
First I used the auto mode to try and capture everything they were doing. This did not work very well because the camera can only go so fast when in this mode, that the entire stunt or action that is happening can not be caught. Second I used sport mode. Sport mode was just what I needed for these type of pictures because it was able to capture every movement they did. I only posted 4 of the 13 it took because the others are basically the same. The only downfall about sport mode is I have yet to figure out how to edit the lighting on them so it is hard to see people preforming things if the lighting is bad I have yet to figure out how to edit it. Lastly video mode is also a part of the settings. I am learning how to use that as well but it seems like I need a little bit more time to perfect my skills at home before I take my camera and video something happening. I am sure it is easy but just learning how to lighten or darken something up is important I think. Blog 3This week my blog is about my progress and different things that I will have taken photos of this week. To start I have added another picture of my dog Deacon. That photo was taken with my Nikon camera. The first one of him was with my IPhone 7. I enjoy taking pictures of nature and the sky so those may pop up another time during a blog.
This week Carli Allen and Cody Beane will be featured in my photos because I will be doing action shots of them while they are doing either simple stunts or even harder stunts. I will take a photo of them in action on all three devices and compare. I am going to guess and say that either my phone or the actual camera will take the best because the GoPro is sometimes delayed and is for big shots. Also only one click at a time to take the picture. The nikon has a setting that is called sport. Sport mode is something where you can hold the button down where you take the picture and it goes until you take your finger off. After you have taken several pictures you can go back through and chose the best ones and get rid of the pictures that may not have turned out so well. |
